Camping near Glacier National Park puts you close to stunning scenery, hiking trails, and visitor centers. If you plan to drive the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road, be aware of strict vehicle size limits: RVs and trailers over 21 feet long, 8 feet wide, or 10 feet high aren’t allowed due to narrow sections and low-clearance tunnels.
Larger vehicles will need to use alternative routes.

When to Visit Glacier National Park
Choosing the right time to visit Glacier depends on weather and campground availability. Summer (late June to early September) brings warm temperatures and open campgrounds but also the biggest crowds, so book early.
For fewer visitors, consider late spring (May to mid-June) or early fall (September to early October), keeping in mind that campgrounds begin closing in mid-October. Winters are harsh, with snow, ice, and closures, making RV travel challenging.

Where to Camp In and Near Glacier National Park
Glacier’s RV camping options include public campgrounds inside the park, private RV parks and campgrounds just outside the park boundaries, and off-grid camping in the surrounding Flathead National Forest.
Inside Glacier, you’ll find 13 front-country campgrounds, many of which require reservations on recreation.gov, while some are first-come, first-served. These campgrounds fill up fast, so reserve your sites three to six months in advance. Most are open late spring to early fall.
Outside the park, you’ll find off-grid and dispersed camping in the nearby national forest. These spots offer solitude and good proximity to the park, but little to no amenities.

Lost Johnny Point Campground
The small town of West Glacier is the western gateway to Glacier National Park, with numerous RV campgrounds, shops, and restaurants, making it a popular home base.
There are also several dispersed camping spots near Glacier along the North Fork of the Flathead River.

Camping Near East Glacier Entrance
The quieter but equally beautiful East Glacier entrance has its own charm, with comparable RV camping options to the west side. Much of the land to the east of Glacier is on tribal land where camping is prohibited. It’s best to stick with established campgrounds here.

St. Mary/East Glacier KOA

Camping Inside Glacier National Park

You’ll find 13 campgrounds inside the park’s boundaries with RV spots. Below are several campgrounds generally more accessible and popular with visitors. Because of their popularity, reservations are highly recommended and can be reserved up to six months in advance.
Sprague Creek Campground
Location: Northeast shore of Lake McDonald, just off Going-to-the-Sun Road
Months of Operation: May through mid-September
Amenities: Sites for RVs 21 feet and under, restrooms, and some basic amenities.
Fish Creek Campground
Months of Operation: June through early September
Amenities: Campsites are moderately spread apart, providing more privacy, plus potable water and restrooms.
Apgar Campground
Months of Operation: May through September reservations are required; October through December is first-come, first-served.
Amenities: The largest campground in the park. It has restrooms and potable water; close to hiking trails and boat rentals.
Two Medicine Campground
Location: Northest shore of Two Medicine lake, on the eastern side of Glacier
Months of Operation: May through September
Amenities: Limited RV spaces, potable water and restroom facilities
St. Mary Campground
Location: Near Glacier’s east entrance and Going-to-the-Sun Road
Months of Operation: Typically April through October, depending on weather.
Amenities: Hookups, potable water, and restrooms.
Many Glacier Campground
Location: East side of Glacier National Park
Months of Operation: Late May through late September (closed for the 2025 season)
Amenities: Restrooms, potable water, picnic tables, fire pits, and hiking trails..
Before You Go: Timed Entry & Travel Info
Glacier National Park requires timed entry reservations during peak months, separate from the park entrance fee. Save time and purchase both at recreation.gov. Enter during your reserved time, before 7am, or after 3 pm.
Some campground reservations within the park include access to vehicle reservation areas, but exceptions apply: Apgar, Fish Creek, and St. Mary Campground reservations WILL NOT provide access to vehicle reservation areas. You must also have a timed entry reservation.
Be bear aware—follow food storage regulations to help protect the parks 300+ grizzly and black bears. Check seasonal closures and weather updates on the National Park Service website to plan your routes effectively.
